"The Politics of Maps:
Establishing Facts on the Ground and from Outerspace"
Personal Experiences
with Mapping Agencies
and Agents of Progressive Thought
Laray Polk, artist and writer, will present issues surrounding the
politics of maps. Drawing on personal encounters with different
cultural groups and official agencies who control information,
gallery-goers will experience the Gaza Strip, the Calakmul
Rainforest (Mexico), the Navajo Nation, Los Alamos, a radioactive
waste dump in West Texas, and the Marshall Islands from a unique
perspective.
