The cream of the crop of French short films is out and about!
Libération
Les Lutins have really made a name for themselves as the Césars of shorts.
Studio
Recognized henceforth as one of the main events of what’s going on in the world of cinema.
Le Monde
For twelve years, the Lutins du court-métrage (Leprechauns of the short film) have been working to promote and disseminate short films to a wider audience. More than 2,000 film professionals vote each year in a format inspired by the Césars to determine the 25 best short films of the year, thereby bestowing upon them a mark of excellence. Supported by numerous partners, including the Ministry of Culture, the National Center of Cinematography (CNC), the mayor’s office of Paris and the National Theater of Chaillot, the Leprechauns of the short film thus participate in discovering young directors, actors and actresses who will be making the films of tomorrow.
The Leprechauns, or, as they are known in French, les Lutins, have participated over the past ten years in the emergence of such filmmakers as François Ozon and actors such as Jérémie Rénier, Ludivine Sagnier and Sylvie Testud, among others.
In 2007, "Le Mozart des pickpockets" by Philippe-Pollet Villard was awarded "Lutins" for best short film and best scenario and, in 2008, won a César and an Oscar.
Created out of a desire to have the French public become familiar with a selection of the best short films of the year, the Tour de France des Lutins was held in 2008 in Pathé and Gaumont movie theaters in 23 cities. The idea of the Tour de France des Lutins is to present short films on a national scale and in multiplex theatres where they are not normally shown.
The Lutins are also distributed on an international scale.
From May 21st to 24th, the Alliance Française de Dallas and the MAC will present for the first time, ‘Les Lutins du Court Métrage’ (the Short Films Leprechauns), the only French Short Film Festival in Dallas. This film festival will feature five different screenings of the best French short films of 2008 at Dallas’ finest contemporary art institution, The MAC (The McKinney Avenue Contemporary) which is conveniently located downtown Dallas.
